Inspired by true and harrowing events, an ordinary man finds his world suddenly torn apart as devastating wildfires rip through the surrounding countryside. With precious moments ticking by, he must flee with his son and pregnant wife if they have any hope of surviving the rapid forces of mother nature.

Joe is an arson investigator for the fire department. He has a loving and devoted wife and has two just as loving and devoted sons. Things couldn't be better for him until he learns that the department wants to retire him. He does so reluctantly. He then falls into a deep depression because, while most people look forward to retirement, he doesn't. So, his wife and children do their best to lift his spirits but all he does is push them away.

Set the Thames on Fire follows struggling piano player Art (Michael Winder) and compulsive liar Sal (Max Bennett) as they embark on a string of ludicrous escapades through a dystopian London, ruled over by a grotesque and tyrannical Impresario. 　　On their adventures they encounter a deranged Magician, played by performance artist David Hoyle, an anarchist witch (Phillips) and the Impresario’s twisted right-hand man (Fielding) leading to a final showdown with the despotic ruler himself.

Concrete objects and spaces of remembrance are poised against the ephemeral, the unarchivable. We see a sense memory of an archive in the act of destroying itself. The sun magically settles between the crevice of two trees; an obsessive lens roams across broken and partially burned fragments; fire flickers through glass, water, and finally consumes the frame. Isaac Geldhart is a Holocaust survivor who, overcome by grief at the recent death of his wife, seems determined to run his publishing firm into the ground by printing books that have no hope of financial success. His son Aaron, who also works at the company, grows frustrated with Isaac's emotional decline and attempts to take over the firm. The resulting crisis involves Isaac's other two children, his daughter Sarah and his dying son Martin.
